Orbit HA had been requested by Coventry City Council to redevelop an area of housing which had long been problematic in terms of anti-social behaviour, drug dealing and other types of crime. The existing properties were largely decanted and proving to be a health and safety hazard.

Coventry CC wanted to introduce mixed tenure occupation of the site and therefore sought equal numbers of affordable and private sale housing in the redevelopment proposals.

APL was originally commissioned to provide a resource support role to the Orbit development team in order to drive forward the project, which had stalled for some time.

APL reconvened the multi-stakeholder project team and led on feasibility studies and then the selection in competition of Lovell Homes as developer/contractor to undertake the project. This was done in parallel with negotiation the land deal and managing the demolition of areas of the site as they became available.

Once the land had transferred from the Council to Orbit, APL was commissioned as Employers agent for the scheme which has now successfully completed, is fully occupied and has significantly added to the community within which it sits.
