Following on from the successful completion of the Ashfield Medical Centre at Beanhill, Avebury Projects was delighted to be commissioned to design and procure these facilities for an existing, well established Milton Keynes Practice. The facilities will be on a new site, located centrally within the present patient catchment area, which is currently occupied by a redundant nursing home. The two storey building complies fully with Milton Keynes Environmental policy D4 which requires carbon emissions to be 25% less than those allowed by Building Regulations. This has been achieved by using a highly insulated timber frame system along with solar thermal and photovoltaic panels to all units. The policy also requires a Sustainable Urban Drainage System, water butts, reduced internal water consumption, storage for compost and recycling, covered cycle storage, building materials specified in relation to their Green Guide Rating, and a construction Waste Management Plan.
The design provides a light and airy, naturally ventilated, day-lit building which aims to improve the well-being of patients from the moment they arrive.
